MY WIFE GAVE AWAY MY CATS WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE – AND IT RUINED OUR MARRIAGE.

I came home today and found that my wife had given away all three of my cats. She said they were driving her crazy with their shedding, even though I cleaned up their fur twice a week and cleaned their litter boxes every day. These cats are clean, affectionate creatures, and they were with me long before I was married. I can’t believe she did this!

When I demanded an explanation, she flatly refused to say where she had taken them, only assuring me that they were ‘in good hands.’ But I couldn’t shake the feeling of betrayal. I was devastated.

My cats – Maxim, Oleg and Luna – were a huge part of my life, and she hadn’t even consulted me. Now I’m reconsidering everything – her act just doesn’t seem normal to me.

Honestly, I’ve started to seriously consider divorce. Maybe I’m exaggerating. Or has she really crossed a line that shouldn’t be crossed?

I was up all night.

I kept thinking about how Maxim was curled up cosily on the sofa, how Oleg was gently touching my leg with his paw, demanding attention, and how Luna was falling asleep on my chest, purring. The house seemed empty, almost suffocating in its silence. I knew I had to find them.

The next morning I tried to talk to my wife calmly, hoping she would realise how much pain she had caused me.

Please just tell me where they are,’ I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

She crossed her arms and replied coldly:

They’re fine. It’s already been resolved. You just need to let the situation go.

Let it go?! Is she serious?!

These are not just things to get rid of! They’re living things! They trusted me, and I let them down… because of you!

She rolled her eyes.

You’re acting like I threw them out on the street. I made sure they were put in good hands.

But that wasn’t enough. I needed to see them with my own eyes.

So I started looking. I went to all the nearest shelters, posted adverts on the internet, printed out reward flyers. A few days passed, but I found nothing. Every time I came home, I could feel my hatred growing.

And my wife? She lived as if nothing had happened. As if she hadn’t committed the betrayal that broke my heart.

And then a chance came along.

An acquaintance who works at an animal shelter wrote to me:

‘I think I’ve seen your cats. A few days ago a woman brought in three that looked a lot like yours.’

My hands shook as I dialled the shelter’s number.

Do you still have them? – I asked, breathless.

I’m sorry, but they’ve already found new owners.

I felt dizzy.

Can you tell me who took them? Please, I’ll do anything!

I’m afraid that information is confidential. But I assure you, they’ve gone to good families.

I hung up the phone and just sat there in silence. It’s over. They were gone forever.

I didn’t cry. I just felt empty. Like a part of my soul had been ripped out of me, leaving behind nothing but empty space.

I didn’t say a word that night.

And for the first time in our married life, my wife looked troubled.

I did what was best for us,’ she said quietly. – You got too attached to them. They’ve taken over your whole life.

I grinned.

And you decided the best solution was to betray me?

She opened her mouth, but immediately closed it. She knew she had no excuses.

Something in me broke. I silently packed my bags and left that night.

I stayed with a friend while I sorted out my feelings. But truth be told, the decision had already been made.

If she could betray me like that, what else could she do?

A week later, I filed for divorce.

She was shocked. Maybe even regretted what she’d done. But I didn’t care anymore.

Some betrayals are too deep to forgive.

Months passed. I still missed my cats, but I knew I had done the right thing.

One day, out of pure curiosity, I went to the shelter’s website and opened the ‘Adoption Success Stories’ section.

My heart beat faster.

Maxim, Oleg, and Luna.

Three different families had taken them in. In the photos they looked happy, well-groomed, loved.

They were fine.

And, for the first time in a long time, I realised – so was I.

There are boundaries in relationships that should not be crossed.
Trust, respect and openness are the three pillars on which love rests. If they’re not there, feelings won’t save your union.

If something is bothering you, talk about it. Set boundaries.

And if those boundaries are violated?

Walk away.

You deserve better than that.

What would you do if you were me? Let’s talk in the comments! And if this story touched you – share it!
