Emma Edwards was 10 years old, but she had been battling a serious illness for almost a year. When the doctors broke the terrible news to her parents that their daughter had very little time left, they did not lose hope, but at the same time, they tried to do everything they could every day to make their daughter happy. But the reality for the girl was that she had less and less time left to live.
Her mum and dad knew that their daughter loved her childhood friend Daniel very much and dreamed of marrying him when they were both older. The family loved their little girl so much that they decided to marry her off so that Emma’s dream could come true.
This girl had long wanted to be a mother of three children, although this was not typical for girls her age. This desire arose by chance when she talked to DJ in the schoolyard. They playfully pretended to get married, even though they were only 8 years old at the time. Over time, the girl’s health deteriorated, and her desire to get married became nothing more than a fantasy. Her family decided that their daughter would not experience this joy, so they decided that it had to be done now. It took them two days to organise a real wedding ceremony with the help of relatives and close friends. The celebration took place in Emma’s grandparents’ garden. The date, 29 June 2023, will remain in their memory forever.
About 100 people attended the wedding. Among the guests were teachers, doctors, and a nurse from the hospital. They all wanted to witness this touching event in the life of their favourite student. The little bride’s father walked his daughter down the aisle, and her teacher spoke about the touching love and friendship between her students. She also recalled the time when they wanted to get married during recess.
It was obvious to everyone that the boy was also very attached to his girlfriend. Everyone who attended this symbolic wedding understood that they could have created a real family in the future, had it not been for the tragedy. Unfortunately, Emma passed away on 11 July. Despite their immense grief, the family was happy that they had been able to fulfil their daughter’s greatest wish.
The story of this little girl is heartbreaking, but at the same time, it demonstrates the love and strength that a family is capable of to support a dying child. It may seem strange to some, but this is how this family expressed their love for their daughter.
