A 13-year-old red-haired cat named Buttercup was overjoyed when a Nevada shelter finally shaved off large, fluffy chunks of hair.
This cat had led an itinerant life for several years. His former owners would let him out for a walk outside, but one day they left and abandoned the cat. The cat continued to walk around the house and the compassionate neighbors fed him, but no one cared about his fur.
Finally one of the people who saw the poor cat managed to catch the animal and take it to the Nevada SPCA No-Kill Animal Shelter. There, the cat was described as very calm and very well-fed, weighing over 10 pounds, along with his fur of course.
Shelter staff marveled at his tangled hair, saying it was “one of the heaviest cases of tangled hair they’ve seen.”
It took several hours to neatly shave off all the tangled hair. People took breaks in the process so that the cat could rest from the stress.
Under the fur, the cat’s skin was very dry and tight, and he was well lubricated with a special product to relieve it all. These treatments are still being done and Buttercup’s condition is improving.
– He is such an affectionate cat, loves to be held and gets along well with other cats.
Buttercup has already found a new owner.
