Sharon Stone admitted that at the age of 40 she was forced to leave the film industry because she looked ‘too old’.

The star of Basic Instinct was considered one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood in the 1990s. Ironically, the film was released just six years before Sharon Stone turned 40, and, as she recently revealed, some film executives had already written her off.

Stone’s path to stardom began with modelling and small roles on television. Interestingly, it all started in 1976, when 18-year-old Stone took part in the Miss Pennsylvania pageant. One of the judges noticed her and advised her to move to New York to sign a contract with a modelling agency. This was followed by years of work in Milan and Paris, which ultimately inspired her to return to New York and pursue acting.

In the 1980s, Stone played small roles in films and television shows, but she was still far from achieving major success. It was not until the 1990s that Stone began to attract attention. First, it was the lead role in the film Total Recall (1990) alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. Two years later, Stone shone in the film Basic Instinct (1992).
After the actress turned 30, Hollywood gradually began to lose interest in her.

After the release of Basic Instinct, Stone was at the height of her popularity. In 1992, she was named one of PEOPLE magazine’s ‘50 Most Beautiful People in the World.’ Then Empire magazine highlighted her charm by including her in its list of ‘100 Hottest Stars in Film History’ in 1995 and 1997, when she was 39 years old. Given all this praise, Stone could not have imagined that criticism would soon rain down on her.

In 1998, Stone turned 40, which, according to her recent recollections, brought her closer to her ‘expiration date’ in Hollywood. Stone, now 65, said that when she turned 40, she began to hear from her colleagues that she was ‘too old’ for many roles, and it shocked her. Now, the actress looks back at photos of herself at age 40 and can’t believe anyone would criticise her age.

Stone said, ‘At 40, you’re old enough to know what you want and young enough to go for it. And you look amazing! I looked amazing! I looked like a Scandinavian princess! I look at my photos and think, “Was that so long ago? My God!”’

Stone’s personal life truly began in 1998. That was the year she married Phil Bronstein, editor of one of San Francisco’s largest publications. He was her second husband after Michael Greenberg, who was married to Sharon from 1984 to 1990. For several years, Bronstein and Stone were unable to have children, mainly due to her health problems.

Finally, in 2000, Stone and Bronstein adopted a son, Roan Joseph. He was the couple’s only son and Stone’s first child. In 2003, the couple separated, but she was not ready to give up on starting a family. The actress adopted two more children, Lard Vonn and Quinn Kelly, in 2005 and 2006, respectively. Since then, nothing specific has been known about Stone’s romantic relationships, but she has never remarried.

At 65, the actress looks stunning

It’s impossible to imagine that anyone called Stone ‘too old’ when she was in her forties. Now that she is 65, we never cease to be amazed at how young she looks. Of course, such beauty takes work, and we have learned some of Stone’s secrets.

You’ll be surprised, but the Hollywood star only washes her face with water, makes sure her skin is sufficiently moisturised — and that’s it. However, Stone’s real secret, which is hard to believe, is painting. She explained that painting relieved her of anxiety.
