My husband brought his mistress home to kick me out. He had no idea that in an hour he would be homeless.

I remained silent, suppressing my anger. Instead, I tried to focus on not forgetting anything important from my things. But then I heard a car stop behind me.

My husband had brought home a mistress to kick me out. He didn’t realise that in an hour he would be homeless.

I turned around and saw a black BMW from which Logan’s grandfather, Mr Duncan, stepped out. He looked perplexed.

Mr Duncan was known for his toughness. He had built the family fortune from scratch and demanded the highest standards from his children and grandchildren. I always feared that being part of his family would be difficult. But from the beginning, he had treated me with warmth and respect, as if I were his own.

Now, however, the look on his face frightened me. He looked around the lawn with my belongings, the strange woman on the porch, and Logan who appeared and came out to greet him.

‘What’s going on here!’ – his voice was loud and demanding.

‘Grandpa, we didn’t expect you to come,’ Logan began, swallowing nervously. ‘This isn’t a good time. This is a private matter. You wouldn’t understand.’

‘Logan, I may be old, but I understand exactly what’s going on here,’ Mr Duncan replied, his voice even harsher. ‘I asked because I didn’t want to believe my eyes.’

‘Grandfather, Natasha and I…we’re done. She doesn’t belong in this house anymore,’ Logan tried to explain.

‘And who gave you the right to decide that?’ – Mr Duncan squinted at me, throwing me a brief but warm glance. ‘I remind you that I own this house. I let you live here because you were going to build a family. But if you choose to throw your wife away like unwanted junk, consider you no longer live here. Now.’

Logan’s face went white. ‘What…what do you mean?’

‘I mean that Natasha is staying here and you’re leaving. What’s more, as of this moment, I’m withdrawing your financial support. All my money and help is off limits to you. You have disgraced our family with your behaviour and for the sake of some cheapskate. I will not tolerate this!’

My husband brought home a mistress to kick me out. He didn’t realise he would be homeless in an hour.

‘Grandpa!’ – Logan began to protest.

‘Go away. Now!’ – Mr Duncan retorted.

After Logan and Brenda left, Mr Duncan invited me into the house and explained why he had come. ‘Natasha, I heard from my son about your and Logan’s conception problems and I’ve come to offer to pay for IVF.’

‘Oh, sir,’ I squeezed out, my emotions starting to break through.

‘But I guess I was here in time to see this chaos. You don’t deserve to be treated like this,’ he continued, and I could barely handle his kindness.

‘Thank you, Mr Duncan… I… I didn’t know what to do, so I just started packing.’

My husband brought home a mistress to kick me out. He didn’t realise he’d find himself homeless in an hour.

He put his hand on my shoulder, squeezing it lightly. ‘Don’t. Consider this house yours. I’ll handle all the paperwork and make it official. It’s also my apology for not raising a better grandson.’

I nodded as tears flowed down my cheeks.

In the days that followed, Mr Duncan kept his promise. My name appeared on the deeds to the house, and Logan was stripped of his access to the family money.

And that was just the beginning of my new, free future.
