His mouth opened and closed, but no words came out.
He realised I had exposed him, and this time he couldn’t get away with a lie.
‘He told me he’d changed,’ I continued confidently.
“But, Sophie, let me tell you something – he’s still the same manipulative man he was when we were together.
He only wants to come back to me because he doesn’t want to lose the choice.
He doesn’t care as much as he pretends to care about you.”
Sophie’s eyes filled with pain and confusion.
‘Aaron, is this true?’
Aaron was cornered.
There was no way out.
He couldn’t deny it and he couldn’t turn the situation in his favour.
For a moment he just stared at the ground, unable to meet our gazes.
Finally he spoke, but his voice was barely audible.
‘I didn’t mean for it to happen like this,’ he muttered, slumping his shoulders.
‘I just…thought I could have both of you.’
I looked at Sophie and shook my head.
“Don’t let him fool you, Sophie. He’s not worth it.”
Without another word, I got up and walked away, leaving Aaron and Sophie standing in silence.
As I walked away, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction.
I had uncovered his true motives, and for the first time he wasn’t in control.
The truth had come out and I was finally free of his lies.
Sophie had her own decisions to make, but I hoped she saw Aaron for who he really was.
As for me, I knew I was done with him for good.
No more second chances.
No more manipulation.
Just freedom.
