My ex-husband took the house, the car and all our money after the divorce – I couldn’t help but laugh, because that was part of my plan.

After a bitter marriage in which Mike was obsessed with wealth, Nicole unexpectedly agrees to give him everything in the divorce. While Mike celebrates his ‘victory,’ Nicole secretly prepares her final move.

Walking out of the lawyer’s office, I feigned defeat, but inside I was overflowing with jubilation. Left alone in the lift, I couldn’t contain my laughter. Mike thought he had everything, but I had a surprise for him.

A few weeks ago, our marriage had finally gone bad. When Mike announced he wanted a divorce, I was ready. I let him believe he could have it all – the house, the car, the savings. He was so focused on his victory that he didn’t notice the trap.

During the negotiations, Mike listed what he wanted with a greedy smile, confident he was in control. I surprised him by agreeing to everything but my personal belongings without objection. He couldn’t believe his luck, but I was already formulating my plan.

As soon as I stepped into the lift, I texted my mum straight away, ‘I’m going home to pack. I’ll call you when I have time.’ The packing only took a few hours – I only took the significant items, relieved to leave an empty house.

The next morning I answered Mike’s call with feigned civility. He was furious, accusing me of setting him up, as my mum was now living in the house. I reminded him of the deed he had signed years ago, transferring the rights to the house to her.

The realisation hit him like a cold shower. I could hear my mother in the background commanding and criticising his habits. I laughed silently, savouring my new freedom.
