It was not only an excellent film, but also an opportunity for Mel Gibson to work with his son, Milo Gibson, who played a supporting role in the film.
Milo is one of Mel Gibson’s nine children, and, as you probably already know, he has a career in the film industry. But this was not always the case, as Milo initially wanted to do something completely different from his father.
One might think that, as Mel Gibson’s son, you would live in the luxury of a huge Hollywood mansion. But, according to one of his sons, that was not the case.

Milo Gibson was born on 16 November 1990 in Australia. When he was only 3 years old, the family moved to California, where Milo grew up in Malibu. He was very interested in surfing, but just because he was the son of a major Hollywood star, his life was not full of glamour.
Of course, he enjoyed a privileged childhood, but according to Milo himself, his parents made sure that their children were like everyone else.
‘It wasn’t a showbiz childhood,’ he says. ‘Our parents kept us away from that world,’ Milo Gibson told The Australian newspaper. ‘Because I think it changes people.’
‘We didn’t grow up in a Hollywood environment,’ he explained. ‘I did everything except acting; I wanted to work with my hands, deal with real people.’
Although they had a normal childhood, he and his siblings met several celebrities. One of them was Robert Downey Jr., who turned out to be an excellent fighter in video games.
‘He let me punch him in the face a couple of times,’ Milo recalls.
As a child, Milo Gibson didn’t quite understand that his father was famous all over the world. It was only a few years later that he realised his father was a huge celebrity.
Growing up in a celebrity family
But at the same time, he was very cautious when talking to people.
‘Yes, all the time,’ he said. ‘I think you’re learning… to read signals? Yes. I don’t really like telling people about it, but many of my friends already know and they don’t care. They’re friends with me because they’re friends with me.’
When he was six years old, his father starred in the film Braveheart. Milo watched it immediately — and loved it. In fact, he already knew that his father had starred in the film, as he had visited the set of one of the film’s first scenes.
‘I walked onto the set alone. Mannequins were swinging from the roof,’ recalls Milo Gibson. ‘I remember my dad grabbing me and pulling me out, saying, “This isn’t real.” I especially remember everyone looking down at me from above.’
The Gibson surname certainly created a certain amount of pressure. As with many other celebrities, fans believe that their destiny is to follow in their parents’ footsteps. However, Milo Gibson made a conscious decision to live away from the public eye.
He grew up playing football in high school and surfing in his spare time. After graduating from school, he decided to become a private massage therapist and worked in this profession for several years. Later, he became an electrician.

Milo Gibson loved working with, as he puts it, ‘real people,’ and since his parents didn’t push him into the film business, he had every opportunity in the world to become whatever he wanted to be.
His father, Mel Gibson, led an eventful life, travelling the world, making films and attending celebrity award ceremonies and other events across the country. But he was also determined that his children should grow up in a normal environment, for which we love him dearly.
Of course, Milo Gibson ultimately followed in his father’s footsteps, even though his parents never pushed him towards an acting career.
At the same time, they liked it.
‘My father has always been a big proponent of doing what you love and continuing to try new things, but doing what you love,’ Milo Gibson said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
‘And that’s what I did. I had a lot of different jobs, but they weren’t things I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I’m very passionate about acting and I really love it.’
Working with his father
In 2016, he tried his hand at acting for the first time when he got the opportunity to work with his father in the World War II film Hacksaw Ridge, starring alongside actors such as Andrew Garfield. This was the beginning of his acting career, and working with his father, who was the film’s director, was the perfect start.
‘It was nice to see him behind the camera,’ he said. ‘I realised that you have to be prepared to take risks and stick to your decisions; one of the key qualities of an actor is to be vulnerable.’
Gibson landed his first leading role in the film All the Devil’s Men, which premiered in 2018. He also starred in the films Tribes of Paolos Verde (2017) — alongside Jennifer Garner — and Breaking & Exiting (2018).
At 32, Milo’s film career is just beginning, and we are sure that he will receive maximum support from his parents.

He has already played many different roles, which is definitely a good sign for the future! In addition to his acting career, Milo Gibson has also tried his hand at modelling.
With his thick hair and expressive eyes, he really is a carbon copy of his father, Mel. Sometimes people recognise him, but not as Milo.
‘Sometimes people say, “Hey, you look like Mel Gibson! And I say, ‘Damn, I wish I did!”’ he says.
Not only do we believe that Milo Gibson has a bright future ahead of him in acting, but we are also very happy that neither he nor his father are pushing it.
