The fact that we are all destined to grow old and grey is an immutable fact of life (at least for now, who knows what the future holds with advances in technology and science).
It doesn’t matter how much money we have, how strictly we watch our diet and exercise, how much we sleep or what we do… Sure, we may age in different ways, but ultimately we are all heading in the same direction. It’s basic biology, and there’s nothing we can do about it.
That’s why it’s so amusing that we can still be shocked when we see the hand of Father Time working his magic. Maybe you haven’t seen someone in years and then you’re amazed at how much they’ve aged? Or you see an old movie star you remember from your childhood, only now her hair is grey and her youthful cheerfulness is gone.
The way celebrities age is an interesting thing. Their looks change as they age – as with any human being – only their journey to old age has been documented for the world to see. From film to film, from red carpet to red carpet, they leave a trail behind them that you can literally trace with your finger.
So, time for today’s not-so-subtle excursion: who remembers Meg Foster?
Meg Foster for years.
Of course she has! With her mesmerising ice-blue eyes, piercing gaze and raw beauty, how could it be otherwise? The American actress made her film debut alongside Michael Douglas in Adam at 6am (1970) and went on to star in numerous projects including The Six Million Dollar Man, Bonanza, The Twilight Zone and Murder, She Wrote.
Foster was once a blossoming talent and sought-after actress, but over the past two decades her star has steadily faded from view. Today she looks almost unrecognisable compared to the woman who, in the words of Mademoiselle magazine, had ‘the eyes of 1979’.
It’s hardly surprising, since she’s already 76 years old, but it seems people on the internet just can’t seem to get over how much she’s changed. Let’s be honest, some of the comments border on cruelty, while others simply reinforce the idea that the actress looks nothing like she used to.
Nevertheless, we think her decision to age naturally, without resorting to the plastic surgery that has become so common in the film and TV industry, is to be commended rather than censured.
In any case, Foster continues to work in film and television, and is also rumoured to breed horses from a large herd she owns herself.
Do you remember Meg Foster? What do you think of how she looks now? Tell us about it in the comments.
