Married for three years, and every night her husband slept in his mother’s room… One night she followed him — and discovered the shocking truth.

Three years of marriage… and every night her husband slept with his mother. Until one night Marisol decided to follow him… and discovered the truth that made her cry.

When Marisol first got married, she thought she was the happiest woman in the world.
Her husband, Diego, was a calm, hard-working and responsible man.
He left for work early and always came home — silent, kind, never raising his voice.
But after a few weeks, Marisol began to notice something strange.

She just smiled weakly, not arguing.
Everyone around her praised her: ‘You have a wonderful husband, so caring.’
But she felt that something was wrong.
For three years, every night, he spent time with his mother… That couldn’t be normal.

That night, unable to sleep,
Marisol saw that the clock showed two o’clock in the morning.
Diego stirred quietly, got up and, as always,
left the room.
Her heart beat faster.
This time, curiosity and pain overcame her fear.

She turned off the light, quietly opened the door and followed him,
stepping carefully across the floor in the hallway.
She saw Diego open the door to his mother’s room
and close it behind him.

Marisol approached, holding her breath,
and pressed her ear against the door.
From inside came the tired voice of Doña Teresa:

‘Son, please bring me the ointment… my back is burning.’

Diego’s voice responded tenderly:
‘Yes, Mum, lie down for a bit, I’ll put it on for you.’

Marisol felt a lump in her throat.
She opened the door slightly and peeked inside.
Diego was sitting on the edge of the bed,
wearing gloves, applying ointment to his mother’s back.
Doña Teresa’s skin was covered in red rashes,
and her face reflected her pain.

Marisol covered her mouth to keep from sobbing.
She couldn’t believe it.
All these years, her mother-in-law had hidden everything,
always wearing long-sleeved clothes,
talking and laughing as if everything was fine.
But at night, the pain became so severe
that she couldn’t sleep alone.
Diego, unable to bear to see her suffer,
had cared for her in silence for three years.

‘I’m sorry, Mum… that I can’t take away your pain,’ Diego said in a trembling voice.

‘Son, you’re married now. I don’t want your wife to feel bad…’ she whispered.

‘She’ll understand. I just want to make things easier for you.’

Outside the door, Marisol fell to her knees.
Tears streamed down her cheeks.
For three years she had thought badly of her husband,
three years of pain and mistrust…
and he turned out to be nothing more than a loving son.

She quietly returned to the bedroom.
The next morning, when Diego left for work,
Marisol went to the pharmacy, bought some soft ointment and clean towels,
and knocked on Doña Teresa’s door.

‘Mum, let me help you,’ she said in a trembling voice. “
Starting today, I’ll apply the ointment
so Diego can rest.

Doña Teresa looked at her silently,
tears welling up in her eyes.
Then she nodded quietly.
‘Thank you, daughter… thank you.’

That night, for the first time in three years,
Diego slept next to Marisol.
He took her hand firmly and whispered:
‘Thank you for understanding me.’

She smiled through her tears.
‘I’m sorry I didn’t understand before.’

He hugged her.
And at that moment, the small bedroom was filled with peace.
Marisol realised that happiness is not always about being loved immeasurably,
but about understanding and sharing the quiet weight of true love.

From then on, every night,
Marisol prepared warm water and ointment to care for Doña Teresa.
The woman’s health gradually improved,
her smile lit up the house again,
and Diego, freed from the burden of guilt,
became an even more loving husband.

All doubts were dispelled,
leaving only gratitude, tenderness and understanding.
And then Marisol thought:

“If I hadn’t followed him that night, I might have lived my whole life without ever knowing how big the heart of the man I married really is.”
