Justine Bateman stands by her decision to age naturally despite the pressure: “I think I look amazing.”

It is well known that Hollywood stars, especially women, often feel pressure to maintain their appearance as they age. We often hear about the latest cosmetic procedures and beauty treatments that celebrities use to try to look young.

However, some prefer to embrace their natural beauty and age gracefully, such as Justine Bateman, who recently spoke about her decision to forego cosmetic procedures despite society’s expectations.

Justine Bateman is an experienced actress, director and writer who rose to fame playing Mallory in the beloved 1980s sitcom Family Ties as a teenager. She also starred in the film Men Behaving Badly and played notable guest roles in series such as Desperate Housewives and Still the Best. She is also the older sister of actor Jason Bateman.

In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, she said: ‘Honestly, I don’t care. I think I look amazing. My face reflects who I truly am, and I’m proud of that.’

“I believe that if I erased my current self, I would lose not only my credibility, but also the growth I have experienced. I like to see the changes in the mirror that show I’m not the same person I was at 20.”

Justin Bateman is now 57 years old, and like many actresses her age, she has faced pressure to undergo plastic surgery. However, she has decided to embrace her age and avoid cosmetic procedures.

Beattie said that since turning 40, she has faced hurtful comments about her appearance, with some people comparing her naturally ageing face to that of a ‘sea hag’ or ‘meth addict.’ This led to her being pressured to undergo cosmetic procedures or Botox.

In 2021, she shared with People: ‘I thought my face was perfectly fine. However, due to some fears unrelated to me, I decided to fix these problems, and as a result, I felt wrong… I became unreasonably ashamed of my appearance.’

Over time, Bateman decided to ignore negative comments about her appearance and embrace the natural ageing process. ‘Changing your face won’t get rid of your fear,’ she explained.

‘If you decide to have plastic surgery, you will, of course, look different. Of course, you will change, but you will not get rid of your underlying fear. That fear will remain… I believe that resorting to plastic surgery is often associated with trying to please others.’

The actress, who touched on this topic in her book Face: One Square Foot of Skin, expressed her sadness about women who are overly focused on cosmetic procedures. She wants them to appreciate their natural beauty.

‘It makes me sad that they can’t fully enjoy life,’ she shared with 60 Minutes. ‘I regret that they are being led astray by the overwhelming notion that they need to change their appearance before they can truly live.’

Justine Bateman is truly stunning! It’s so important for everyone to embrace their natural appearance without feeling the need to conform. We’re grateful to Justine Bateman for inspiring women to age gracefully.
