When Amy saw her father on the beach with a woman much younger than himself, she was stunned. He was supposed to be in New York on business. But after she sent the photo to her mother, the shocking truth turned Amy’s world upside down.
It was a beautiful sunny day at the beach. The waves lapped gently against the shore, and the salty air was filled with laughter and joy. Amy and her best friend Lisa had come to the coast to take a break from school, soak up the sun and relax.

‘Let’s find a good spot before it gets too crowded,’ suggested Lisa, covering her eyes and scanning the area.
Amy agreed, scanning the shore. Suddenly, she froze. Her heart pounded. ‘It can’t be,’ she whispered, recognising a familiar figure by the water.
‘What’s wrong?’ asked Lisa, puzzled.
Amy pointed. ‘That’s my dad. He told me he was in New York for work.’
Sure enough, there he was, casually dressed, laughing next to a young blonde woman — someone much younger than Amy’s mother.

Feeling a pang of betrayal, Amy immediately called her mother. Trying to sound casual, she asked, ‘Mum, where’s Dad right now?’
Her mother replied, ‘In New York, of course. Why?’
Amy’s heart pounded. After they hung up, she hesitated, but couldn’t resist taking a quick photo and sending it to her mother with a single word: Dad?
A moment later, her phone rang. It was her mother, whose voice sounded eerily calm. ‘I know who that is,’ she said.
Confused, Amy demanded an answer. ‘Who is she? What is Dad doing with her?’
There was a long silence before her mother finally spoke. ‘She’s his daughter.’

Amy was shocked. ‘What? So she’s my half-sister?’
Her mother sighed and explained that many years ago, her father had had a brief affair during a difficult period in their marriage, and as a result, he had a daughter whom he had never told Amy about. He had kept in touch with her, but had never revealed her existence in order to protect his family.
Shocked, hurt, and devastated, Amy rushed to her father. Her voice trembled as she demanded answers.
He looked heartbroken but admitted that he didn’t know how to tell her. He explained that he was afraid of losing her and her mother and decided to secretly support his second daughter, hoping to keep his family intact.
After this confrontation, Amy left, struggling with betrayal and anger. She wandered along the beach, remembering her father’s love and their shared memories. Confused but understanding the mistakes he had made out of fear, she gradually felt her anger give way to a desire to understand.
With trembling hands, she called her father. ‘I’m still upset,’ she admitted, “but I understand why you didn’t tell me.
I want to meet her properly.”
That evening, they gathered for an awkward but hopeful dinner.

Amy’s stepsister, Jenna, broke the ice with a joke about their strange family relationship, and soon the laughter gave way to tension. They bonded over their love of the ocean, their quirky quirks, and their mutual desire to get to know each other better.
As they laughed together, Amy reached out and squeezed her father’s hand. At that moment, she knew they were on the road to healing.
