Ella Bleu Travolta, daughter of legendary actor John Travolta and the late Kelly Preston, is making waves not only in Hollywood, but also in the world of wellness, particularly with her commitment to a vegan lifestyle.
Her decision wasn’t just about her health, but something much bigger.
Ella Bleu was born on the 3rd of April 2000,
Ella Bleu Travolta is the daughter of iconic actor John Travolta and the late Kelly Preston. She was born on 3 April 2000 at Travolta’s home in California.
Ella’s birth was no ordinary moment – it was something truly special. Her mother, Kelly Preston, shared the unforgettable moment when she first saw her daughter.
‘John slipped his hands under her arms when she was still only halfway out and I put my hand on his and together we pulled her out and put her on my chest,’ Kelly told Redbook a few months after giving birth.
She’s the big sister
Ella is a proud big sister. She became the second child of John Travolta and Kelly Preston after the birth of their son Jett in April 1992. Tragically, Jett passed away at the age of 16 after hitting his head on the bathtub following a seizure at the family’s holiday home.
Two years after Jett’s heartbreaking death, Ella became a sister again when her brother Benjamin was born on 23 November 2011.
According to her mum Kelly, Ella was just beyond excited when she learnt the news. The actress shared Ella’s reaction to becoming a big sister for the first time:
‘You would have thought from her enthusiasm for his arrival that Ella was giving birth to Benjamin herself – she was ecstatic to say the least. When she first saw him, she fell in love,’ says Kelly.
Following in her parents’ footsteps
Today, Ella keeps in close touch with her younger brother and posts heartwarming messages on social media every year in honour of Benjamin’s birthday.
Ella Bleu already fell in love with the stage as a child. At the family home in Maine, they set up a small stage with a red curtain, and that’s where Ella and her friends performed. They did anything from a performance of The Incredible Hulk to various Christmas shows. One year they even performed as the Maine Housewives.
‘Ever since I was a little girl, I loved performing, singing, dancing and putting on shows at home for my family and friends,’ Ella Bleu told People.
When she was just 9 years old, she made her film debut in ‘Old Dogs,’ where she starred alongside her parents and the late legendary actor and comedian Robin Williams.
‘It was amazing to do my first film with my parents, it was so much easier,’ Ella Bleu told Celebrity Pulse.
Filming in ‘Old Dogs’ was not the last time she worked alongside her father John Travolta. Ten years later, she starred in the drama ‘Poison Rose.’ Ten years after her first role, Ella starred alongside her father again in the drama ‘Poison Rose’. In the photo above, you can see Ella and father John on set in the past.
As of 2024, Ella has amassed an impressive resume with notable experience in modelling, acting and music.
Ella’s path to veganism
In 2022, Ella Blue-Travolta made the decision to transition to a vegan lifestyle and plant-based diet. Her motivation to become vegan was driven by both ethical considerations and a desire to live a healthier lifestyle.
Inspired by one of her close friends, Ella decided to try a vegan diet for a fortnight. The results were so positive that she continued it. During this time, she watched several documentaries to gain a deeper understanding of the environmental benefits of a plant-based lifestyle. It was a revelation for her to realise that her choices directly contribute to the well-being of the Earth.
‘It’s really changed the way I feel – I have more energy overall and I feel great,’ she told Greenmatters.com.
When Ella first switched to a plant-based diet, she did extensive research to see how it could improve her health. But what interested her most was the environmental impact. After watching documentaries, she learned that reducing our consumption of animal products can reduce our carbon footprint, save water and help clean the air – a real benefit to the planet.
Ella Blue’s diet
Ella’s favourite breakfast often includes something simple but hearty, like toast with crunchy peanut butter, agave drizzle and a sprinkle of pumpkin spice. It’s a quick, protein-rich option that energises her for the whole morning, offering a delicious balance of sweetness and spice.
Is John Travolta a vegan?
Although Ella has switched to a plant-based diet, her father, John, doesn’t seem to have joined her just yet.
‘I never try to force or convince anyone to switch to a plant-based diet. I believe that (as with any other lifestyle choice) the decision should always be left up to you. But I definitely always always share the benefits I’ve experienced from adhering to a plant-based lifestyle, as well as encouraging friends and family to try the food so they can see for themselves – often they like the vegan versions just as much or even more than the regular ones,’ says Ella.
Ella loves to bake
In her spare time, Ella loves spending time in the kitchen experimenting with new recipes. In July 2023, she even started her own cooking-inspired Instagram account, ellableubakes.
On it, she shares her favourite recipes and explores cafes and restaurants around the world that specialise in plant-based dishes and baked goods.
Ella put her baking skills to the test by recreating the coconut Bandt cake that Tom Cruise is known to give his celebrity friends for the holidays. The result? She wowed both her father and brother Benjamin.
‘It’s adorable, oh my god,’ John Travolta said in an Instagram video. Her brother, Benjamin, couldn’t agree more, showing off his nearly empty plate as he scraped out the last bits.
Ella’s favourite recipe is a ‘delicious’ vegan banana bread.
‘It’s my speciality,’ she told People during the photo shoot and added that she also likes to drink matcha with dairy-free milk in the morning.
When Ella goes out to eat, one of her favourite places is PLANTA, an innovative plant-based restaurant that draws inspiration from cuisines around the world.
Those who have followed Ella over the years may have noticed how much she has changed in appearance. Unfortunately, some websites and tabloids were unkind to her when she was younger, often commenting on her appearance and even calling her ‘chubby’.
The world certainly doesn’t need to pay much attention to the looks of young women, but when you grow up in Hollywood and are the daughter of one of the world’s biggest actors, it’s almost inevitable – no matter how tragic that reality may be.
Photos of young Ella, who was around 12 or 13 years old, unfortunately sparked cruel comments online. Some speculated that she was pregnant, while others described her as ‘a bit large,’ Amomama reports.
Despite such attention, Ella has undergone an amazing transformation and now seems to be thriving. Thanks to her new plant-based diet and lifestyle, she radiates confidence and health, proving that true beauty shines from within.
Being the child of an incredibly famous and successful actor is undoubtedly very hard. But Ella always felt the support of her parents. Sadly, Ella was only 20 years old when she faced the heartbreaking loss of her mother, who passed away in July 2020 after a two-year battle with breast cancer.
Fortunately, Ella found strong support in the form of her father, who is also her mentor in many ways.
They share a close friendship, travelling frequently and spending time together. In 2024, they travelled to Europe and attended the Paris Olympics, including the final of the tennis match between Novak Djokovic and rising star Carlos Alcaraz.
Earlier this year, the father and daughter duo were spotted together celebrating the 30th anniversary of Pulp Fiction at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Los Angeles.
Travolta’s Ella Bleu proves that a plant-based lifestyle isn’t just a diet, it’s a lifestyle with a purpose.
Through her experiments in the kitchen and sharing the benefits of veganism, she inspires others to make choices for health, the planet and even their taste buds.
Ella continues to thrive and share her journey, being a shining example of how small changes can have a big impact. Would you try a plant-based dish inspired by Ella? Share your thoughts! 🌱
