Berlin has many memorials to the victims of the Holocaust, where people regularly come to see the monuments and learn more about the history. Only recently young people have stopped realising the importance of these memorials and now they see the place as a beautiful backdrop for photos.
Almost nobody thinks about how hard it was for people in the forties, because people have completely forgotten about it. The victims of the Holocaust are now treated with respect only by the elderly, who are well aware of how terrible it was to live in those times. Moreover, they remember every year what happened during the Second World War, which brought so many troubles and problems, as well as human casualties.
It is a little saddening that today’s young people have no idea what events these or those monuments commemorate.
Tourists are also not bothered at all that when they take pictures with happy faces near most of the monuments, they show their disrespect for the victims of the Holocaust. Some even jump happily on these monuments and show strange poses. To be honest, it disgusts me to even look at it. Surprisingly, after these photos, many tourists do not receive any punishment, although they defiantly show their disrespect.
In hindsight, this photo may not seem so funny anymore…..
