He was an iconic and legendary actor and now no one even recognises him from his photograph. During his life, he played many roles. But most of all he regretted that he could play a doctor, but did not become one. It was his father’s cherished dream. Did you recognise him? No? Then read on for his life story.
His father Dr William Laurie hoped that his sons would continue his doctor’s path. He was especially hopeful for the youngest, Hugh Laurie.
The younger Laurie planned, in principle, to become closer to medicine. His father was a real role model for him. He not only became a good doctor, but also managed to achieve success in sports, becoming an Olympic champion in rowing.
Laurie went to the same college his father went to. Not only that, but he also attended rowing school. He planned to take part in the Olympic Games and then continue his studies, choosing a medical profile.
But soon he discovered a new hobby – a theatre club. He also attended a comedy group, where he met actress Emmy Thompson. Fate presented him after a while with a meeting with his future partner Stephen Fry.
80-90-ies became a very fruitful period for him. Hugh Laurie appeared in many TV shows. And also starred in the sitcom ‘Black Viper’.
2004 – a period of real discoveries. He literally woke up famous when he decided to shoot in the TV series ‘Dr House’. This role was one hundred per cent imposed on Laurie, so he coped with it brilliantly.
For the role in this series, Hugh Laurie had to get rid of the British accent, which was not easy at all. He made every effort to fit into the role of a narcissistic genius of the hospital. No one would argue that he did his job better than one could imagine.
This is how Laurie became the most famous doctor in Hollywood. However, this did not make the actor happy – life presented him with many trials and difficulties.
As Hugh Laurie later admitted, he often had periods when it seemed that there was no way out. But whatever happened, the actor came to the set in time. He with all the responsibility of his work.
Even in moments of illness, he did not cancel the shooting. No one heard such words from him. However, he was so tired that sometimes he wanted to get into an accident to get a few days off to rest.
