After 260 days in the shelter, the dog loses hope and ‘cries endlessly’ hoping to find the perfect new home.

A dog can suffer greatly after spending an extended period of time in a shelter. After months of relinquishment, many shelters witness dogs that were once cheerful and hopeful fall to the wayside.

An example of this is Major, a shelter dog from Indiana who has been crying non-stop for over 260 days after being abandoned by his former owners. However, his friends at the shelter continue to hope that one day he will find the perfect family. Major, a four-year-old terrier/pit bull mix, is in the care of Hamilton County Humane Society in Indiana.

Major has been in the shelter ever since. The Humane Society states that Major was initially in good spirits despite being relinquished and that he was a ‘sweet and sensitive’ dog who loved to play and his Jolly Ball. Major was described as ‘a true companion with a big heart’. Staff called him a gorgeous boy and nicknamed him ‘Major the hunk’ and ‘Major the heartbreaker’. Unfortunately, not everyone was impressed with Major’s positive traits; as time went on, adopters continued to bypass him.

Shelter staff report that Major’s positive attitude deteriorated due to constant rejections. According to the humane society, ‘his cheerful character is dimming.’ ‘This once cheerful boy, who loved balls, now sits in his room and sobs non-stop.’

He is now in the shelter’s visitors’ room rather than in the kennel, which they say is causing him stress. However, they realise that finding Major a permanent home as soon as possible is the only possible option. Major will do well in a family where there are no small children or felines.

It is recommended that you have a meet and greet with him as he gets on well with other dogs but is not always aware of his strength. Major may not be a good fit for every family, but there is sure to be someone who will be the perfect home for this kind and energetic dog. Major’s adoption website states, ‘If you are ready to welcome a loving, strong and playful friend into your life, this is the one for you.’

Major has been at the shelter for a while now and it is devastating to see him so depressed and lost. We really hope he finds a new home soon! To help us spread the word about this gorgeous pup, please share this article! ❤️
