A family of 13 children lined up in a row. Now all eyes are on the car…

Having children, even one or two, is a challenge.

Nowadays, most families have 1-3 children. What about in the old days! When our grandparents grew up in families with 6-10 children!

In the 1920s, this family living in Boston, USA, caught the eye of local photographer Leslie Jones of the Boston Herald-Traveler.

The family consisted of a mum, dad, 10 girls, 2 boys and a baby boy whose gender is unfortunately difficult to determine from the photo.

The older children were already teenagers at the time these photos were taken, and the youngest, judging by the photos, was about four years old at the time (if we don’t take into account the baby in mum’s arms).

That’s a lot of kids! They must have had to do a lot of housework, learning to share, catching up on things with their elders. But they seem to have managed to make a life in their own world.

Mum and Dad must have been proud of their offspring.

What’s it worth just polishing all the shoes! Like any other family, they had their own system for everything.

For example, this family had only one car. But they thought of a way to fit all the members into it.

We hope they only travelled short distances in this way, because it was not safe! Although times were different and cars were less fast.

Naturally, car seats for children were out of the question then!

Into the car they stirred, but under one umbrella… Not so much!

But at least they tried!

It’s so nice to look at photos like this! They clearly convey the atmosphere in the family.
