Kate Middleton captured everyone’s attention during this year’s Trooping the Colour celebrations, but it wasn’t just her impeccable appearance that had royal fans talking. Many were quick to spot a touching nod to Princess Diana in the details of her outfit.

The Princess of Wales appeared in an elegant pale blue coat-dress by Catherine Walker. This choice immediately brought to mind one of Diana’s most beloved fashion looks from the 1980s.
The connection was hard to miss. Kate’s outfit, with its sharply structured shoulders and neat white accents, was very reminiscent of the Catherine Walker design that Princess Diana had once worn to Easter events in 1987. The striking resemblance sparked lively discussion amongst fans of the monarchy, with many describing the look as an elegant tribute to the late princess’s enduring influence on royal fashion.

Kate complemented the ensemble with a striking wide-brimmed hat by Philip Treacy and elegant high-heeled shoes, creating a polished royal look that immediately drew comparisons online.
But the most significant element was not the outfit itself. Kate also wore one of Diana’s favourite pieces of jewellery — a sumptuous bracelet featuring three rows of pearls and diamonds, created for the late princess by jeweller Nigel Milne in the 1980s.

The tribute to Diana was evident not only in Kate’s outfit. Princess Charlotte, appearing alongside the royal family on the palace balcony, also wore a delicate bracelet. The 11-year-old princess looked lovely alongside her mother in a white Alessandra Rich dress, adorned with soft blue floral embroidery.
Charlotte completed her look with matching ballet flats and a white bow in her hair, becoming one of the most photographed young members of the royal family that day.

Although Trooping the Colour was held to mark King Charles’s official birthday, many fans of the monarchy couldn’t help but notice the touching nod to Princess Diana — and the striking resemblance between two generations of royal style icons.
