Catherine, Princess of Wales, returned to the international stage this week with a particularly symbolic visit to Italy — and her appearance immediately attracted attention around the world.
The 44-year-old Princess of Wales arrived in the small Italian town of Reggio Emilia on an official visit. This trip marked her first solo overseas tour since her battle with cancer. The last time she travelled abroad unaccompanied was back in 2022, when she visited Denmark before falling ill.
And from the moment Kate appeared in the town square, discussions about her outfit have been non-stop.

Kate chose an elegant trouser suit in a soft blue shade, pairing it with a white blouse featuring a deep V-neck and sharp lapels. The understated ensemble, known as the Lola design by Edeline Lee, is reportedly worth around £2,000 and has quickly become one of her most talked-about fashion appearances in recent months.
The structured jacket with draping at the back added softness to the formal silhouette, whilst a bright blue leather bag and pointed-toe heels by Ralph Lauren completed the impeccably put-together look.
But it wasn’t just the fashion that caught the public’s attention.
The princess looked relaxed and visibly delighted as she greeted local officials, including the mayor of Reggio Emilia, before stopping to chat with the children waiting for her in Piazza Camillo Prampolini. At one point, she even paused to have her photograph taken with one of the people in the crowd before entering the town hall.
For many fans of the royal family, this visit had a much deeper significance than a routine official engagement.

The two-day trip is seen as an important step in Kate’s gradual return to major public engagements following her recovery. During the visit, she is set to receive a special award from the mayor as part of the Primo Tricolore project — in recognition of her work supporting early childhood development.
Back in 2021, the princess launched the Early Years Centre at the Royal Foundation — an initiative aimed at improving the emotional and social development of young children. As part of her programme in Italy, she will also visit schools working with children under the age of five.
Sources close to the royal household have reportedly described this visit as the start of a significant new chapter in her public role following months spent away from the intense royal schedule.
And the atmosphere surrounding her arrival clearly reflected this.
Crowds gathered in the square to welcome the British royal guest, and local officials described the tour as an important cultural milestone in relations between the UK and Italy.
Tomorrow, Kate is expected to meet with residents of a rural area near Reggio Emilia and take part in a traditional village lunch, where she is reportedly set to learn how to make fresh pasta by hand. This region is widely known as one of Italy’s culinary capitals and the home of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

But even before the pasta-making masterclass began, one thing became clear following today’s appearance: Kate Middleton’s return to independent royal tours abroad has officially begun.
