Bruce Willis was spotted smiling in his car, despite his battle with dementia

Bruce Willis, once one of Hollywood’s brightest stars, was recently spotted in Los Angeles, offering a glimpse into his life as he continues to battle frontotemporal dementia.

The 71-year-old actor, whose career came to a halt following his diagnosis, made his first public appearance in a long time. Paparazzi photographed Willis on 1 April as he sat in a black SUV alongside a close friend who was driving.

Bruce was wearing a light grey T-shirt and a dark blue jacket. He appeared to be in good spirits, sitting in the passenger seat and chatting animatedly with his companion. His face showed an almost childlike spontaneity, and a broad smile gave him a particularly warm appearance. Despite the seriousness of his condition, the actor seemed to be enjoying the warm, sunny day in his friend’s company.

On the same day, the family celebrated another important occasion. Willis’s wife, Emma Heming, shared a touching post in honour of their daughter Mabel, who turned 14. The former model shared a memorable family photo in which she and Bruce lovingly kiss their daughter on the cheek. Emma also described how Mabel spent the day: in the afternoon she went sailing with friends and family, and in the evening there was a small family dinner.

“Just like that! Mabel’s already 14!” Emma wrote happily. The couple also have a younger daughter, 11-year-old Evelyn. Since his diagnosis, Bruce’s entire family has rallied around him, and his three daughters from his previous marriage to Demi Moore — Rumer, 37, Scout, 34, and Tallulah, 32 — continue to stand by him.

Since Bruce was diagnosed with this incurable condition in 2022, he has been living in a single-storey house near the family’s main mansion in Los Angeles, which has been specially adapted to meet his needs. He is looked after by medical staff around the clock. Emma is also working to raise awareness of the disease and raise funds through her charity, The Emma & Bruce Willis Fund, which supports research into frontotemporal dementia and helps families facing similar challenges.

On 19 March, the Golden Globe winner celebrated his birthday, and Emma shared a photo of him enjoying a trip on a yacht. And on 21 March, the couple celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary, and Emma posted an archive photo of the pair taken in those happy and healthy times before Bruce had been diagnosed.
