The ‘kangaroo’ method, in which a newborn is placed on the bare chest instead of an incubator, has once again been in the spotlight after a viral photo appeared. This method helps regulate the baby’s heart rate and breathing, and also strengthens the emotional bond with parents, especially fathers.
In the photo, a father holds his premature twins to his chest. The image, first published by the Danish organisation Forældre og Fødsel and then by the South African organisation NINO, has been reposted more than 18,000 times. The photo clearly demonstrates the warmth, trust and love between parent and children.
The kangaroo method allows new parents to establish a close bond with their baby, creating a sense of security and emotional comfort. This simple but effective way of caring for an infant helps parents and children gain confidence and mutual support from the very first days of life.
