If you’ve read the book series Game of Thrones is based on, A Song of Ice and Fire, then you know that most of the characters are very young. Most people justify this by explaining that the books take place in medieval Europe, where life expectancy was much lower. Therefore, the books have to show a reality where children are forced to become adults due to the gritty life that surrounds them.
In Game of Thrones, however, characters are often beaten, tortured and sexually abused left and right. Not to mention all the nudity. So, obviously, the producers of the show had to cast actors who were of age in order to depict these harsh scenarios.
But this doesn’t stop people from wondering: what would the characters of Game of Thrones have looked like if they were played by actors close to their real ages in the books? We have a few suggestions:
Robb Stark. In the books, Robb was only 16 when he was killed. Actor Richard Madden was 27 when he last played the tragic role of the Wolf King.
A more accurate Robb: Nicholas Hamilton. The 16-year-old might have been more accurate for the part. The young actor appeared in The Dark Tower and is set to star in the remake of the horror film It.
Daenerys Targaryen. In the books, the Mother of Dragons is roughly 16 at her oldest. In the show, she’s played by Emilia Clarke, who’s 30.
A more accurate Daenerys: Sophie Nelisse. The 16-year-old Canadian actress appeared in The Book Thief, but she had her break in the French Canadian film Monsieur Lazhar.
Margaery Tyrell. In the book series, Margaery is only 16 years old the last time we see her. In the show, she’s played by Natalie Dormer, who was 34 when her character was killed.
A more accurate Margaery: Ellery Sprayberry. The actress from Houston, Texas, starred in Wakefield (with Bryan Cranston). She’s related to Teen Wolf star Dylan Sprayberry.
Joffrey Baratheon. The short-lived Lion King is only 13 when he dies in the books. He’s played by the baby-faced actor Jack Gleeson, who was 22 when he last appeared in the show.
A more accurate Joffrey: Max Charles. The 13-year-old actor already has an impressive filmography to his name. He’s appeared in The Strain, The Amazing Spiderman, and American Sniper.
Arya Stark. Everyone’s favorite assassin is roughly 12 years old last time we see her in the books. She’s played by the wonderful Maisie Williams, who’s 20 years old.
A more accurate Arya: Olivia Rodrigo. At 13 years old, Olivia would have been a more accurate Arya Stark. She also has the features of Lyanna Stark, whom Ned once said Arya resembled.
Sansa Stark. Last time she appeared in the books, Sansa was roughly 13 years old. The actress who plays her in the show, Sophie Turner, is 21.
A more accurate Sansa: Mackenzie Foy. The 16-year-old actress starred in Interstellar, where she played the young Murph. She also starred in the horror film, The Conjuring.
Jon Snow. In the books, he’s roughly 16 years old at his oldest. He’s played by Kit Harington, who’s 30 years old.
A more accurate Jon: Chandler Canterbury. The 18-year-old actor starred in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, After Life, Repo Men, and The Host.
Bran Stark. In the books, the second youngest Stark is only 9 years old the last time we see him. He’s played by Isaac Hempstead Wright, who’s 18.
A more accurate Bran: Jacob Tremblay. At only 10 years old, this Canadian actor has already starred in an Academy-nominated film, Room, and worked alongside Naomi Watts in The Book Of Henry.
