It seems like there’s a major Hollywood breakup or divorce in the news every other day.
It also seems like no celebrity couple is immune to the “curse” that appears to doom all Hollywood marriages to fall apart at one time or another.
But a few long-lasting celebrity relationships challenge that notion. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell, for one, have made their decades-long love story last despite the fact that they’ve never actually gotten married — and it’s clear that they’re happier than ever! Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. are another famous pair who have been married for 15 years, which is practically an eternity in Hollywood.
But one of my favorite Hollywood marriages has to be between Cheers star Ted Danson and Academy Award-winning actress Mary Steenburgen. In a recent interview, Ted opened up about his wife and shed some light on how their marriage has remained so solid.

According to The Good Place actor’s recent interview with AARP, Ted and Mary met on the set of Pontiac Moon in 1993.
At the time, Mary was a single mother of two kids (with ex-husband Malcolm McDowell) and Ted had recently ended his second marriage following a highly publicized affair with Whoopi Goldberg.
“I was a mess-and-a-half,” he admitted.
“I thought, I’m incapable of being in a relationship. But I was working on myself. Ironic how life works in those moments. Once you throw your arms up and surrender, a lot of times things come your way.”
The two married in 1995, just two years after meeting, and have been happily together ever since.
Ted calls himself “lucky” to have experienced a love like he has with The Last Man on Earth actress.
“Usually, when I have a fearful thought, I flip it into gratitude. Like, if I think, ‘Oh dear, where’s Mary? She’s not home. Something must have happened,’ I tell myself, ‘Thank God I have the opportunity to be married to a woman whom I love so much,’” he explained.
“Because that love is what makes me afraid that she might be hurt or something. I tell myself, ‘Aren’t you lucky?’”
Ted also opened up about all the things he loves most about his wife after all their time together.
“I like the way Mary laughs and smiles,” he revealed. “I like her willingness to say ‘yes’ to leap off tall buildings of life. I love her sense of fairness and right and wrong. And I don’t think you’re supposed to say this when you’re almost 70, but she’s very sexy.”
The Cheers star also said that he and his wife “can do absolutely nothing together and do it really well.”
Kristen Bell, Ted’s co-star on The Good Place, even told AARP that it’s “almost intimidating” to spend time with Ted and his wife “because of how solid and loving and connected they are.”
“Honestly, it’s beautiful how they obsess over each other,” the actress said.
Mary, for her part, has echoed many of the same sentiments and clearly feels just as strongly as she ever has about her husband. “I always thought Ted was brilliant,” she told Fox News earlier this year.
“When I was going through sad times, I’d watch Cheers at the end of the day to make me feel better.”
“Then, I discovered it was easier to just sleep with Sam, the bartender,” she joked.
But Ted perhaps best summed up what’s kept their marriage going all this time when speaking to Us Weekly back in July.
“I’m madly in love with Mary Steenburgen. She’s a remarkable human being, so I’m just incredibly blessed,” he said. “It feels like heaven on Earth. If I were to die, I can say, I know what it’s like to be loved and to love.”
Isn’t it incredible that these two still feel so strongly about one another after so many years together?
